My folks are movi ng into a retireme nt village, and even though the house they’re going to is actually slightly larger than the one they’re coming from, they’ve convinced themselves that they’re massively downsizing, so they’re having a major chuck-out. Which means I’m inheriting a bunch of junk heirlooms and momentos.

This is the latest installment - my diecast toys. I haven’t seen most of these since I was 4. It seems that I was right into trucks back then.

Kinja'd!!!

The diecast aficionados among you may be surprised not to recognise a good propo rtion of these. The Bedford TK trucks in the front centre , the earthmovers an d forklift on the right, and the smaller-scale ones front left were all made by Fun Ho! toys in New Zealand. We had import restrictions back when I was a kid - lots of stuff was made by small local businesses who van ished when the trade barriers came down in the 80s. Though it turns out Fun Ho!   !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , doi ng handmade collectors diecast toys.

I think I have some of those as well; they were my dad’s growing up but they’ve come into my possession .

FunHo were never sold in NA as far as I know, don’t know if I have ever seen one in person.  I see a few Lesney Matchbox in that lineup too, and the Matchbox W210 sticks out.  Looks like these lived a full life.

I love when the old chests get opened. Last time, I got to read through my Dad’s comic books from the 30s. Also, I always lusted over his old cap gun set when I was little.

The train set is especially cool, but non-working, incomplete, and larger than the common O gauge you see with today’s  Lionel sets.

They sure did. My sandpit saw some serious civil engineering work back in the day

The W210 ’s an imposter, I think, as are the Siku Scanias(?). They’re too recent to have been mine. They’ve also been well used though.

Cool - this makes me want to dig around up in my attic and find my old Matchbox cars.
